Health and Safety Management System Auditing in Canadian energy industries and other high-hazard industries dates back nearly three decades, with the Certificate of Recognition (COR) program in Alberta and, following that, in other provinces, some of which provide WCB-based incentives for participating companies. The COR program in the energy and construction industries had strong early and ongoing uptake as it found its way into contractor prequalification requirements. In 2025, a number of organizations found themselves with overlapping efforts to rethink the future of HSMS auditing in these programs—although they arrived there via different pathways.
This panel includes representatives from Alberta Partnerships (the provincial governing body for the AB COR program), WCB Saskatchewan, an experienced auditor / certified auditor instructor, and Energy Safety Canada.
The panel will:
- Tell the story of how each organization found itself engaged in project(s) related to evolving the COR program / HSMS auditing
- Describe where each of us sees the present moment in COR evolution
- Speak to our aspirations and hopes of where this evolution might take us
Attendees are encouraged to come with all their questions and observations about the present and future of the COR program, and to participate alongside those seeking to shape “what’s next with COR”.
