Mike began his career in construction more than 20 years ago, working on site in roles ranging from labourer and form setter to carpenter and health and safety representative. These early experiences gave him a deep appreciation for the realities of front-line work and the importance of practical, people-centered safety.

While building his career in the field, Mike also completed both a Bachelor of Fine Arts and a Bachelor of Education, and dedicated 13 years of service to the Canadian Armed Forces Primary Reserve. This diverse background shaped his resilience, adaptability, and commitment to teamwork. Mike’s professional journey in safety began at Bermingham Foundation Solutions, where he progressed from Health and Safety Coordinator to Manager, and ultimately to Corporate Health and Safety Director.

In 2022, he achieved his Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) designation and has since focused on applying contemporary safety theory to practice. At the core of Mike’s philosophy is a belief that trust and care are the foundation of any organization that wants to learn and grow. He champions listening to those closest to the work, empowering innovation, and creating an environment where people feel safe to contribute ideas.
