Laura Boksman has over 25 years of experience in the nuclear industry in radiation protection as a Health Physicist. She started working in Health Physics at Cameco Corporation. Following this, Laura worked as an Operational Health Physicist at Atomic Energy of Canada’s Chalk River Laboratories, ensuring that work was done safely in various environments including radioisotope laboratories, plutonium fuel fabrication facilities, waste management areas, effluent monitoring, and others.

Ms. Boksman holds a bachelor’s in physics (Medical/Health Option) from McMaster University and a master’s degree in medical Biophysics from the University of Western Ontario.
Laura is an experienced instructor, having taught numerous radiation safety and emergency preparedness courses throughout her career. Her track record of success includes roles in operational health physics, laboratory management, sampling and analysis, emergency management, training, dosimetry and nuclear waste management and decommissioning.

As the Senior Scientist of the Radiation Safety Institute of Canada, her responsibilities include ensuring the scientific integrity, quality, and successful delivery of the Institute’s projects including client RP program review, development and licensing support; performing surveys and/or evaluations of safety controls; shielding design and calculations; NORM consulting; X-Ray safety advice; contributions to CNSC public hearings; outreach to workplaces; and public awareness building and policy work along with assisting with development and teaching of radiation safety courses including Radiation Safety Officer courses, X-Ray Safety Officer courses, general worker awareness courses, NORM courses, and TDG Class 7 courses.
