Safety Talk: The Credential Problem: Why Safety Training Credentials Are Broken
Date & Time
Tuesday, April 28, 2026, 11:00 AM - 11:25 AM
Joey Motokado
Description

Counterfeit safety training certificates are showing up on job sites across Canada, and most of them look identical to the real thing.

In this session, Joey Motokado and Chris LaBossiere walk through a real fraud case handled by their team, from forged confirmation emails to fraudulent certificates, and unpack the systemic gaps that make this kind of fraud not just possible, but easy.

They'll examine why paper-based credentials fail regulators, employers, and workers alike, and introduce the identity-anchored credentialing infrastructure that We Know Training is building, including joining the Oliu™ Network: an interoperable ecosystem where verifiable credentials travel with the worker and can be instantly validated by any employer, regulator, or training provider in the network.

Expect an interactive exercise that challenges the audience to spot a fake, a candid look at how the current verification system breaks down, and a practical vision for portable, verifiable proof of competence that works across organizations.

This talk is for anyone responsible for ensuring the workers on their site are actually trained.
